Introducing Akeather, competitive cosplayer from Brisbane! Akeather competed in the Australian qualifier for WCS this year and has been cosplaying since 2019. Akeather is sure to find us whenever we table at conventions and is such a delight each time they visit. Above you can see them with our Trailblazer (Honkai Star Rail) kits, photographed by Captain Sir Render.

We had the pleasure to ask them a few questions about themselves and this cosplay!

What is your favourite part of this cosplay?

This was the first time I had ever made anything this elaborate, especially the coat. I spent hours trying to figure out how I wanted it to sit, how to get the lining in and how to create the collar. It was so much fun incorporating different techniques to get a result I was happy with!

What part of this cosplay did you find the most challenging?

Making everything sit the right way was incredibly difficult, especially with the suiting. I ended up trying so many different techniques throughout the process- especially for the custom jacket collar. But in the end it sits exactly where i wanted it to!

How long have you been cosplaying?

I started at the very end of 2019, but when it comes to making my own cosplays I only began at the start of 2023!

What is your favourite cosplay/crafting tool or supply?

Foam clay my beloved

What is your #1 cosplay tip?

Don't give up! If you're stuck, especially when it comes to crafting, pick a skill you want to learn and just throw yourself into learning how to do it.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into cosplay?

Just do it! If you never get started, you'll never be able to experience the art itself. You won't be perfect on the first try, but once you get going and keep trying, you'll be able to figure it out along the way. If things break, don't panic! It happens to absolutely everyone - and there will always be a solution out there, even if it's going to cosplay repair six times in one day (something that actually happened to me)
