Comic Gong 2024 Best in Show Trophies
After sponsoring Comic Gong in 2023 with gift certificates, we were excited to extend them the offer for custom trophies in 2024 after our success with trophies for other events the previous year. Comic Gong was very excited to accept! The event runs 3 tiers of competition: children, teens and adults. Along with the team, we elected to create custom trophies for the Teens and Adults competition, as we were worried about them being too fragile for children.
Each year, Comic Gong works with comic book artist, Marcelo Baez, to create an iconic artwork especially for Comic Gong. As soon as Comic Gong were on board for the trophies, we knew we wanted to use Marcelo's artwork for the year as inspiration so we patiently awaited its release.
We were instantly drawn to the floating star, but wanted to make sure the trophy was obviously a custom work for this specific year - we weren't sure the star was quite enough to achieve this. As a result, we opted to model up the jetpack featured in the artwork as the main body of the trophy. We also elected to have colourful highlights throughout the trophy rather than just having a standard gold topper. On the plinth, we then added lines reminiscent of the flurescent lights in the original artwork, tying all the colour work together.
Our 2024 Comic Gong trophy remains one of our favourite custom trophy works to date!
